JAG

Howlin’ rock n roll with elements of the blues, funk and soul, Melbourne-based artist JAG performs with grit, rawness, roughness and a whole lotta love.

Influenced by the likes of Howlin Wolf, Janis Joplin and Tina Turner, she’s an upcoming powerhouse you don’t wanna miss…

Name ; age ; identification ; location (ASL)?

I’m Jag, I’m 21 years old and I’m from Melbourne, Australia.

Sun, Earth or Moon?

The moon! There’s something moody and mysterious about it that I can relate to.

Why music? What drew you to it?

My brothers were always big music fans and even made music themselves, so by the time I was 11, I was already listening to 90s rap that not even my peers knew of. Since those early years, I’ve continued to listen to all kinds of music to truly immerse myself in the feeling that is music. Music is an art form and sensation that can’t really be explained, and it’s that beautiful mystery that I feel honoured to feel.

Favourite track created to date and why?

I’ve only released one so far, and thats SATISFIED. It’s free and truly a reflection of the artist I am. It’s punk, blues, soul, psychedelic, and everything under the moon. SATISFIED has brought my community of friends and family together in the most organic way.

“There is a fighter spirit and passion for community that only the Outer South East has, and it’s the only thing we’ve ever needed to be the best.”

If you could manifest anything to exist in the Outer South East, what would it be?

Nothing. When I think of the people I’ve met, the opportunities I’ve received, and the community spirit I’ve been blessed to understand, I don’t think theres anything else to manifest. There is a fighter spirit and passion for community that only the Outer South East has, and it’s the only thing we’ve ever needed to be the best. We’ve learnt love, and with that everything else is possible and in the making.

What do you love about the Outer South East?

The culture! Meeting people from all walks of life and surrendering yourself to the way of the Outer South East has been pivotal in my life and the decisions I’ve made. I’ve seen my peers grow and follow their dreams. Ebony (makeup artist) and Oscar (creative) are the main people I think of when I say that. With peace, love and patience, they’ve taken their work to the next level, and served their community in the way they know how. Kush has shown me that by giving the people around you a chance, you can make something spectacular, and it’s something that’ll stick with me for life.
